"This is all fake, this is all plastic, this is me" : A study of the interrelations between style, sexuality and gender in contemporary Stockholm

What is style? What variables determine how we dress, and with what
effects, particularly concerning matters of gender and sexuality? This
thesis deals with these issues through an ethnographic investigation,
demarcated to contemporary Stockholm. By focusing on ten different
individuals, but also including garments, accessories and makeup in
the investigation, the study sets out to explore the meaning of style.
This is done through the combination of three different perspectives,
on speech acts, variables of time and space together with a focus on
bodily matters. In this way, the thesis is a study of the specificities of
sartorial practices in a particular place and point in time, as well as
a development of the fashion theoretical definition of the concept of
style.
